OpenAI releases Canvas in ChatGPT

On the fourth day of OpenAI’s event showcasing new features, the company launched a public feature that had been in testing since October of this year. The Canvas feature in ChatGPT is now available, allowing web version users to edit content and even write programming code, as well as test it before submitting for approval. Here’s how to use it.
What can ChatGPT's Canvas do?
The idea behind Canvas is to provide users with a sidebar window that allows them to alter results sent by ChatGPT without needing to issue a new command. For example, if you want to change the tone of a text, simply type this into the Canvas window, and the text will be altered. But it can do more than just that.
Writing and Reviewing
OpenAI knows that many people use ChatGPT for writing and reviewing, but with Canvas, this process becomes even easier. Once you open the tool's window in your account, you can request that a complete essay be written by ChatGPT in just a few seconds.
If you want to change any part of the content you've just received, you can send the command, and the response will be sent without the need for rewriting. Among the examples shown on the fourth day of the OpenAI event, developers added emojis to a letter to Santa Claus, reviewed a large text, and even requested that a letter to Santa be written from scratch.
Programming
When programming code in Python is typed into Canvas, the window interface changes so developers can work in a dedicated area. In addition to giving autonomy to write full codes in just a few seconds with the support of the GPT-4 language model, you can also use Canvas to review codes you’ve written.
What’s interesting is the Run button: basically, it runs the code right there on the screen, offering users the ability to take their first steps in programming with ChatGPT. Errors are detected, and ChatGPT can correct them with just one click. You can check if the code works fully right after.
During the demonstration, the developers intentionally inserted incorrect code, and after identifying the issue, ChatGPT was able to display the result, which was a chart for a website.
The idea is ready to help developers work in a more complete way, and it should prevent the need to type out each line of code individually.
Using GPTs (Agents)
Another great use of ChatGPT's Canvas is for conversing with agents that can be trained to perform various tasks. It’s like having a customer service chat. In the live broadcast example, developers used a Santa GPT agent and asked him to evaluate whether the present list would be fulfilled (or not).
The good thing about using Canvas with GPT agents is that they can help you with specific topics and in certain situations, thus ensuring greater accuracy compared to using the traditional personal assistant window. Who Can Use It?
Anyone with an OpenAI account can use Canvas, as the tool has exited the testing phase and is now available to ChatGPT users. Simply go to the official AI site and log into your account. The tool is only available for desktop users.
Subscribers to the plans can also use other language models and even the Sora AI, which creates videos with high-quality results. Be sure to check out our articles on these topics to learn all the details and stay updated with all the new features presented during the previous days.
