OpenAI reveals new AI models with reasoning abilities still in testing

OpenAI announced on Friday (20th) that it is testing new artificial intelligence models with reasoning abilities: o3 and o3 mini, signaling the increasing competition to create smarter models capable of solving complex problems.
The company's CEO, Sam Altman, said the AI startup plans to release the o3 mini by the end of January, followed by the full o3 model. This is because larger and more robust language models could surpass the existing models, attracting new investments and users.
OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, launched the o1 AI models in September. The o1 models are capable of reasoning about complex tasks and can solve more challenging problems in fields such as science, coding, and mathematics than previous models, the company said in a post.
The new o3 and o3 mini models from OpenAI, currently undergoing internal security testing, will be more powerful than the previously launched o1 models, the company reported.
