Black Mirror’-style technology to recreate consciousness is being developed

The technology featured in the “Be Right Back” episode of “Black Mirror” recreates the consciousness of a person who has passed away to help those left behind cope with grief — and now, it actually exists.
Deep Reflection uses artificial intelligence (AI) to collect the thoughts, opinions, and communication styles of content creators and public figures who share their ideas online, in order to create an extension of their consciousness.
In the “Be Right Back” episode, a young couple, Martha and Ash, has their relationship tragically interrupted by a car accident that kills Ash. During the funeral, Martha learns about a service that allows people to communicate with the deceased.
As time goes on, she upgrades her subscription until she ultimately purchases a life-sized robot designed to look like her husband — one that behaves like him based on his past social media posts and shared thoughts.
Unlike the robot character in “Black Mirror”, the purpose of this technology is not to replace the person being analyzed, but rather to simulate their ideas and unique way of expressing themselves.
The tool can help content creators better target their audiences, boost engagement with videos, texts, or podcasts, and even recreate old content with a new strategy aligned to the creator's personality.
For the general public, the software can assist in generating new ideas by combining insights from multiple public figures who share similar viewpoints.
“Deep Reflection is the first AI-based technology that replicates, expands, and connects thoughts, ideas, and knowledge through expressions — creating an interactive and customizable reflection model that transforms how audiences interact with content creators and social media.”
